Projek Warisan Budaya 2009

Thank you to Cikgu Lan, Cikgu Ermi, Cikgu Ade, Cikgu Yati, Cikgu Juliati and Cikgu Hjh Zuriena for working extra hours ( handling the prizes and taking care of the kids ) for Projek Warisan Budaya 2009 held at SR Sungai Liang last Sunday.
It was a tiring day however, it was fun and exciting as always. Our kids..Hasrin, Faiz, Alex, Hafizul and Syawal had given a very entertaining presentation of story telling. I still remember what Faiz said in summing up his story..' Walaupun sudah menjadi cikgu, janganlah bersikap tamak...' hehe pintar ani...They are not only exposed to the traditional musical instruments of Brunei but also had the chance to play the traditional Brunei indoor games.
Congratulations to the committees of the event.

P4C..Philosophy for Children..

I really had fun in my conference today. It was really an eye opener for me as an educator, as a school leader in my case. We were given a talk about the new proposed curriculum for the UK by Mick Waters. I am happy to say that ours are moving towards the same direction. That really boosts my confidence to deliver more for the demands of SPN21.
What really stays with me, is the new pedagogy which is P4C introduced by Matt Blyton, teaching philosophy for children. One of the learning areas proposed by SPN21 is the ability of our pupils to possess the skills of critical thinking. Therefore, our challenge is to give endless opportunities for the kids to be more expressive and articulative in areas that they are concern with, particularly in philosophical matters. This is new. This is a good change. Not only we are teaching the kids to be more confident in sharing their views, but we are also nurturing them to have good values and attitudes. They are our future. We need to equip them with what we call as 'Pendidikan Kalbu'. To be able to think critically and creatively for the benefits of the development of our country. This is one of the strategies in shaping them to be responsible citizens in the future. I will share this with the rest of my colleagues and see what we can do in spreading the knowledge gained to the other teachers.
There is a picture of me with Kathy, the Headteacher of Panaga Hornbill School. This conference has opened a new form of networking between us. Kathy and her staffs are very interested to visit the schools in the rural areas and of course we will welcome them..:)
Thank you JSS officers for giving me the chance to have new experiences and knowledge from this conference.

Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow...

Hi again,
I was sent by the JSS officers to attend a conference held by the educators from Panaga Hornbill School. These are the pix of the pre conference dinner held on the 19th of April. I had the opportunity to meet the Headteacher of the school, the teaching staffs and of course the Educators / Professionals from the UK, Mick Waters, Director of Curriculum QCA and Matt Blyton from North Yorkshire LEA. We were entertained by a series of stage performance by the pupils and I am very much entertained with it. It opened my eyes on how to reach the objectives of SPN 21 especially in the Music area. What really caught my attention was when the kids performed 'Stomp The Yard'. They were making music out of empty sehat bottles, big blue empty drums, long and short pipes and basketballs. Very resourceful and creative..Teachers, u can be creative too right? Make me proud ok :)

History in the making for SR Labi..

Alhamdulilah, for the first time ever, one of our pupils got the third place in the Peraduan Mari Bercerita district wide, held on the 11th of April at SR Panaga.
I am very happy with the result and owe this a lot to Cikgu Ade and Cikgu Yati, Faiz's parents and of course to our very own naturally talented storyteller, Md Hafy Faiz Md Jamil. Congratulations :)

Perjumpaan Ibu Bapa Tahun 6

Well...this was our first meeting with the parents regarding the result and analysis of the trial tests for Year 6. Although, the number of parents who came was not really supportive, however it did not stop us from giving the necessary talk about how to help us achieve a good result for the PSR this year.
There were parents who expressed their concern about their children's result so far and gave us a clear insight that they too, are trying their best to motivate and teach their children with the possible ways that they know how and promise to do more in the future.
Insya Allah with the endless strong cooperation between the teachers, the parents and the children..there is no other way but success waiting at the end of the road.
Amin Amin ya Rabbal Alamin.

Teaching Observation

Well done teachers..

In dire need of new computers...

Pictures of our pupils using the laptop while learning about the needs and wants in life, a topic introduced in Social Studies for Year 4.

This is one of the many initiatives of the teacher to teach using ICT. We have limited working computers in our ICT lab. Pupils have to share each laptop and it is never enough for them to explore the excitement of learning using computers. It is one of our main concern as a lot of teaching should be done using the aid of computers, internet and other teaching softwares. We have done our part in getting it. And now...we are waiting...and waiting...and waiting..

Labi Literacy Hour

Every Mon, Tue and Wed, SR Labi will have Labi Literacy Hour ( Reading Big Books ) starting at 7.40 am to 8.10 am. This reading programme will be done every month for the rest of the schooling year. The first week of the month will focus on model reading by the reading teachers. The second week will be on doing individual reading, group reading or reading aloud together. The third week will be on brainstorming, cracking ideas or new vocabularies found in the big book. The fourth week will be on doing authenthic assessment with the pupils. The Reading Teachers will derive activities such as dialogue reading, role playing or doing book reviews and other creative activities with the pupils.

So far, the reading teachers have been embracing the importance of these reading periods to be done with the pupils to support them in grasping better understanding in English language and inevitably will lead and motivate the pupils to do more pleasure reading in their spare time. At the same time, the reading teachers can also polish their own command in english and will give them more confidence in teaching.

A Futsal Court in the making..

Thanks MOE.
